Ten Days of Diamonds on the Lido

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival is unfolding right now on the island of Lido, running September 2 through 12, 2026. As always, the world's great jewelry houses treat the Venice carpet as a stage of its own — and this year the sparkle told a clear story. Alongside the expected fireworks of white diamonds, 2026's carpet leaned hard into colored stones, canary-yellow diamonds, and jewels with genuine history.

Laura Dern

Presenting George Clooney with the honorary Golden Lion for lifetime achievement, Laura Dern wore Cartier's feather-inspired "Tillan" High Jewelry necklace and matching earrings — crafted in 18-karat white gold and set with rubellites, tsavorites, garnets, and natural diamonds — against a cotton-candy pink Prada gown. Styled by Elizabeth Stewart, it was a masterclass in how colored stones can read as both playful and regal, and one of the strongest openers of the week.

Amal Clooney

At her husband's side on opening night, human-rights lawyer Amal Clooney chose a Cartier diamond-and-emerald suite that set the tone for the entire festival: green was going to matter in Venice. This year's jury president made a serpentine statement. Maggie Gyllenhaal arrived in a classic black Celine gown with a Bulgari Serpenti natural diamond and onyx rose gold necklace wrapped elegantly around her collar — the house's most iconic motif, rendered in a sleek graphic palette of black and white. It was understated power dressing at its best.

Nina Dobrev

An Only Natural Diamonds cover girl, Nina Dobrev glistened in a black sequinned Armani Privé strapless gown, styled by Bailey Moon. Her Chopard jewels came from the Happy Diamonds collection: earrings featuring 4.02 carats of round brilliant-cut diamonds set in 18-karat white gold. She layered on two L'Heure du Diamant eternity bands — one with 6.13 carats and another with 8.58 carats of emerald-cut diamonds. Those elongated emerald-cut bands are having a genuine moment, echoing the clean, architectural look driving 2026 wedding-band demand.

Suki Waterhouse

No single look brought more firepower. Supporting partner Robert Pattinson at the Primetime premiere in a Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2026 ensemble, Suki Waterhouse wore Chopard Haute Joaillerie earrings combining 19.2 carats of pear-modified brilliant-cut yellow diamonds, 13.72 carats of pear-shaped diamonds, and 0.36 carats of round diamonds, all set in 18-karat white gold. She added an 8.58-carat diamond ring and a 5.58-carat Asscher-cut ring from the L'Heure du Diamant collection, plus two Ice Cube bands — well over 30 carats in total. Nicola Peltz Beckham

The week's most talked-about moment wasn't the biggest stone — it was the oldest story. Collecting a Rising Star honor with husband Brooklyn Beckham, Nicola Peltz Beckham wore emerald-and-diamond earrings tied to the legendary collection of Barbara Hutton, the Woolworth heiress. The emeralds trace back to Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia ("Grand Duchess Vladimir"), passed through Cartier and a Rockefeller, and were acquired by Hutton in 1936. Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner proved restraint can win. In a vintage champagne-colored Giorgio Armani gown from the Fall/Winter 1995 collection, she wore simple but striking Briony Raymond "Shadow" 8-carat cushion-cut diamond drop earrings in 18-karat yellow gold — and skipped the necklace, bracelets, and rings entirely. Two perfect diamonds did all the work, letting the archival dress and the earrings command the frame.

Chase Sui Wonders

For the opening Ink screening, Chase Sui Wonders wore Tiffany & Co. by Jean Schlumberger, styled by Austen Turner. The showstopper: a Bird on a Rock brooch set with a diamond of more than 13 carats, additional diamonds, and a pink sapphire, inventively pinned to a ribbon around her neck. She added a Schlumberger Ailsa aquamarine ring and a Bird on a Rock Wings ring. J Balvin

Men's jewelry had a genuine moment in Venice, and J Balvin led it. Arriving at the opening ceremony in a patterned Emporio Armani Spring/Summer 2026 ensemble, the Colombian star wore bespoke creations from New York jeweler Greg Yüna: a massive yellow diamond pinky ring and a gold chain anchored by a jaw-dropping 20-carat oval diamond pendant. It was maximalist men's jewelry done with real gemological weight.

Nicholas Galitzine

Nicholas Galitzine went subtler but no less sharp. For the Ink premiere he wore a simple piqué bib-front Giorgio Armani tuxedo shirt without a jacket, adding a vintage-inspired diamond brooch pinned to the front of his collar. It was proof the brooch is officially a menswear move again — a small, deliberate flash of diamonds where a tie or stud might once have gone.

Alessandra Ambrósio

On the maximalist end of the spectrum, Alessandra Ambrósio arrived at the Hotel Excelsior Venice Lido pier in a sultry black strapless custom Intimissimi gown and a full Damiani Mimosa High Jewelry parure — diamond cluster earrings, a matching necklace, a bracelet, and a three-row diamond ring. The coordinated suite is a reminder that the full matching parure, worn head to hand, still reads as pure old-Hollywood glamour.

Marion Cotillard

A longtime face of the house, Marion Cotillard represented the Chanel contingent, wearing the maison's high jewelry to the Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People? screening. Chanel's signature blend of graphic geometry and diamond craftsmanship offered a quieter, more architectural counterpoint to the week's colored-stone fireworks.
